How CLINOMAX™ zeolite works

How CLINOMAX™ Works

Understand the mechanism of action of natural clinoptilolite zeolite and how it delivers measurable benefits across a wide range of industrial applications.

Three Main Mechanisms

1. Adsorption

The zeolite's porous structure adsorbs molecules through van der Waals forces and, in the case of charged species, through interaction with the structure's negative charge.

  • Surface area of 39 m²/g
  • Microporous structure with high internal pore volume.
  • Efficient capture of gases and liquids

2. Ion Exchange

Ions held within the crystalline structure are exchanged for unwanted ions present in the medium, purifying it.

  • Cation exchange capacity: 1.5–1.9 mEq/g
  • Ammonia and heavy metal removal
  • Reversible and sustainable process.

3. Molecular Filtration

The crystalline structure acts as a molecular sieve, with channels of ~4 angstroms (0.4 nm) that admit or exclude molecules according to their size.

  • Molecular-size selectivity (channels ~4 Å)
  • Retention of microscopic impurities
  • Improvement of final product quality

A Polar and Selective Binder

The negative charge of the crystalline structure makes clinoptilolite selective for cations and polar molecules. In practice, it captures what needs to be removed without competing with neutral nutrients in the diet — which is why it is used as a toxin binder without depleting feed nutritional value.

Binds and captures

  • Ammonium ion (NH₄⁺) and ammonia
  • Heavy metal cations (Pb²⁺, Cd²⁺, Cu²⁺, Zn²⁺).
  • Aflatoxina (micotoxina polar)
  • Umidade e gases-alvo

Preserves (does not compete)

  • Vitaminas
  • Amino acids and proteins
  • Antibiotics and coccidiostats
  • Other dietary nutrients remain neutral

Unique Crystalline Structure

Clinoptilolite has a three-dimensional crystalline structure formed by silicon and aluminum tetrahedra, creating channels and cavities that confer its exceptional properties.
